the thing about the comic vs the anime is that the anime fleshes out what the comic didn't, but leaves out the things the comic DID flesh out. e.g. the exes are not explored at all in the comic (except gideon) but the anime does explore them, scott and the rest of the main cast are fleshed out in the comic, but not much at all in the anime (except ramona).

I played LiS very recently and didn't like Chloe at all, thinking she's selfish and immature, but thought "Maybe that's because I'm not a teen?" But I'm glad to see more and more people agreeing that Chloe is a toxic friend I think one of the reasons LiS and Chloe/Max pair got popular and people overlooked (and still do, calling you a red flag for saying Chloe is a bad friend) is bc when it was released, wlw relationships weren't so common in media (The same think happened to She-ra, where people overlooked how abusive Catra and Adora's relationships are) The first time in my walkthrough I had a "hol up" moment is when Chloe got mad at you for answering a call from Kate. Girl, they talked for less than 5 minutes, plus Kate isn't in a good place mentally, how are so entilted? Max can't even talk to her other friends now? I thought either Chloe panicking after Max passed out (2) or their argument in a car (3) would be a breaking moment for Chloe to become better, but no - not only she doesn't care abt Max possibly overworking herself again after 2nd episode, Chloe also doesn't change *at all* from 1st to 5th episode Blaming Max when she wasn't able to hide, getting mad for refusing to steal from handicapped, quite literally saying "I have to blame someone or it's my fault", responsing to the fact Kate tried to еnd herself "Boo hoo, poor Kate, doesn't make me feel better" - how am I supposed to sympatize with Chloe if she can't do the same for others And, okay, I understand she's going through a lot, that Max left her for a long time without a single call and the fact Chloe might actually be bipolar/borderline - I get it, but it's not an excuse. It helps understand her better, but it's not an excuse and it could've been a nice message - no matter what you've been through, you can't act and do whatever you like and hurt others (The same message is present in Bojack Horseman) Chloe being toxic is a not a problem itself, it's the fact writers refuse to realize that, romantizing her relationships with Max. I wouldn't complain either if Chloe did try to become better or if Max realized that you can't go far in friendship only on nostalgia, while also getting closer to her new friends - Warren and Kate I liked LiS' story for the most part and atmosphere is amazing (aside from graphics, esp character models, I thought I'm playing Sims 3), especially soundtrack but Chloe kinda ruined the experience for me. I can't say LiS is a bad game for me, but if Chloe's toxicity was brought to light it would be so much better

Visually she isn't that good of a friend and she is kinda fucked up in terms of addiction to drinking, drugs and all that. But if you've watched the dlc ending of Life is Strange: Before the Storm then you'll know why she went down a bad path in life

I appreciate every point in the video but I just have to defend the HR cast. They're really not poor actors, each of the main cast is fairy accomplished - Pascal Langdale's audition for Ethan is genuinely moving. But the developers did 2 things: 1. Forced French/British actors into American accents (Leon Ockenden got a double dose cuz he had to do a BOSTON accent) 2. Gave horrific direction, there's no other explanation You can see gems of good acting througout the game but instead of just being good moments it takes you out of the moment because you think "Well THAT was good why has everything before this sucked?" 😅

I dissagree with your video. There were plenty moments of chloe before the end of the game where she realizes she is being an asshole and apologizes. Like when she blows up on max before she goes to the alternate timeline, theres text messages between them where she apologizies for blowing up on her and that she didn't deserve that. She regrets the fact that she was also mad at max for taking kate's call. When she visits kate in the hospital she is glad that max ignored her being an asshole and still took the call. The stealing of the "handicap fund" was clearly money that Principal wells got as a bribe from the prescotts. There is no way that real handicap funds would be out in the open like that in just a small envelope. I have worked at schools as a beahvorial therapist and the handling of money for the school is taken with extreme precaution and wouldn't be carelessly left out in the open especially at a prestigious school like blackwell. Chloe is a very complicated character who was traumatized at a young age, not getting any proper mental health treatment would totally make her irrational in her abandonment issues and have behavorial issues like this. THose issues aren't gonna be magically fixed over a week. When I worked as a behavorial therpaist we would get kids like chloe all the time and it was hard to see any real improvement over short amount of time. Chloe is not perfect but like having a bingo chart of "traits of bad people" with clingy, indolent, impatient and closed minded on the same chart as murderer, sexual assualter and black mailer is laughably ridiculous

Having sparing NPCs do nothing but have them try to kill you later really ends up making the game say nothing but nihilism. “Revenge is bad because it’s a cycle of pain. Trying to stop that cycle by not being violent or giving reasons for revenge is pointless, because people will take advantage and still hurt you.” It’s just saying that humans are cruel and violent, and any mercy given is foolish to give.

Chloe basically wrote in her journal in BtS that Max leaving taught her that you can't trust anyone. She has severe trust and abandonment issues, which are totally understandable after everything that happened to her. She even apologised later on for the Kate thing and obviously feels really guilty about it. And yeah, she can be a bit abrasive, but she never forces Max to do anything, and when it mattered, she listened to Max (episode 5, when Max went back to her with the photo) and trusted her completely. She even was willing to die to save other people, basically telling Max not to choose her (I'll still choose her every time, sorry not sorry) in the ending.

Sigh... it's pretty disappointing to see you miss so much stuff. It looks like although you liked the game, you didn't actually carry an exploratory mindset, since you missed many nuggets in Headspace that explain most of your criticisms... and you also failed to see what the event in Headspace represent, labelling most of it filler, when it really isn't.

This video is so stupid, Chloe is a well developed character with a history with max and without her, this is shown in the game and grown upon up to the ending. She just has flaws, that’s part of the character development.

I got covid while in the middle of my first de playthrough so there was nothing I could do except just continue playing. I got so heavily invested in the character that my brain literally forgot for a moment that I wasn't him. I even dreamt through his eyes for a couple of nights. Most intense video game experience so far hahaha

I always thought Kara could’ve done more. Like I get she’s trying to take care of Alice and stuff but it’s weird when two of the main characters’s stories end together while one of the main character’s doesn’t. I feel like Markus could’ve interacted with Kara more and that there could’ve been something between her and Connor. It’d be cool if Connor got another lead for Kara and tried to hunt her down again. At the end of the hypothetical mission you could either choose to spare Kara or “kill” her (something would have to prevent Connor from killing her like Luther or smth) It’d give them some sort of connection.

it's curious that one of the most aggregious moments of Heavy Rain - the part where a character's thoughts just lie to you to keep the twist hidden - could've actually worked in Disco Elysium considering the circumstances, but they still knew bettern than to pull that shit.

I agree with basically all of the points you made in this video. It was incredibly well written and, compared to other videos I’ve seen, you brought so much meaningful thought to the conversation about this game. Though it is wildly underwritten and some of the plot holes are so blatant it’s painful, I do think this game has several redeeming qualities. The world building is absolutely phenomenal, the action is fun, and I did find myself asking a lot of questions after the game ended. I find the gameplay to be very satisfying and, controversially, I like how some dialogue relies on exploration and observation. David Cage is an asshole and I am so glad he took on a co-writer for this even though his weird female domination f*fish is still blatant. Even with its major flaws (like the Alice twist and north’s character) I love the Marcus/Jesus metaphor, Hank and Connor’s dynamic, and I also love Kara’s character. Idk it’s fun discussing what could’ve been better but it’s also fun to sit back and enjoy. After my first play through I had a very long and philosophical discussion with my friends about consciousness and humanity. Even though it doesn’t say anything super revolutionary about its themes, I genuinely loved this game and the ideas it made me question. P.S. god markus’ ending is so bad LMAO

The way I rewatch this video..

This game is one of the inspirations for one of my comics. The main themes I deal with for robot characters are allegories for not feeling human (like a person) this comes from my own trauma of being adopted. As well as the theme of parenthood and what we pass on to our children. Robots give really fun designs too.

Detroit became human is flawed, still I love it. Just the concept alone makes me wanna hug the characters. I like Conner and Markus the most cuz I’m an artist.
